Ruth Farris

Ruth Elizabeth Farris, age 91, of Marceline, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 8, 2025. Born on July 5, 1933, in Marceline, MO, Ruth was the daughter of Charles and Maude (Wiseman) Edgar. On May 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to James Heber Farris, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2019. Together, they built a loving home and raised their family with strong values, faith, and unconditional love. Ruth was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart into caring for her family. She found joy in simple pleasures-cooking, sewing, and line dancing-but nothing meant more to her than spending time with her loved ones. A woman of deep faith, Ruth was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she faithfully served and taught preschool Sunday school for over 40 years. Her greatest legacy was the selfless love she showed through a lifetime of caring for others, always opening her home and heart to family, friends, and even strangers in need. She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Leigh of Shelbyville, KY; grandchildren, Bryce Stella, Christian Farris (Bobbi), Jason Stella (Molly), Shelby McGuire (Richard), and Jillian Harp (Cody); and great-grandchildren, Coraline Stella, Zoe Stella, Macey Cavanah, Corbin McGuire, Stella Harp, and Ezekiel Harp. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Farris; son, Kenneth Farris; and siblings, Dale Edgar, Dean Edgar, and Ruby Edgar. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Bethany Baptist Church in Marceline, officiated by Steve Edgar and Pastor Jeremy Blackburn. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Delaney Funeral Home. Ruth will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Marceline. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
