Ruth Marie Sawyer

Ruth Marie Sawyer, age 80, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the Laurels of Coldwater. She was born September 3, 1942, in Hillsdale, to William and Clara (Lechner) French. On May 12, 1973, she married B.D. Sawyer, and he preceded her in death.
Ruth graduated from Reading High School in 1960 and then from Hillsdale College. She also attended Wright Beauty Academy in Battle Creek and graduated from Warner Beauty College in Fort Wayne. Ruth later received a paralegal certificate from Washtenaw Community College. For over 40 years, she worked as a beautician owning her own salon. Ruth also was a longtime landlady in Hillsdale County, owning several rental properties. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, proud standing member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, and Frontier United Methodist Church. Ruth also enjoyed camping and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Belle D. Stier of Hillsdale, Barbette D. Sawyer of Hillsdale, and Ba'Toija D. Sawyer of Albany Kentucky; three grandchildren, Brock VanZandt, Lillian Marie Stier, and Paisley Durling; and one sister, Clara Belle Green of Coldwater.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services for Ruth Sawyer will be held at Cambria Cemetery #2 in the spring of 2023. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
