Ruth L. Wood
Lansing, Michigan
Passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at the age of 96. Born March 6, 1929 to James and Ethel (Nilson) Corbin on the family farm in Mason, Michigan. A tomboy in her youth, Ruth was unafraid to get her hands dirty. She found joy in hard work and learned many life lessons on the family farm where she grew up. Ruth was a graduate of Mason High School class of '48 and took her first job at Dart National Bank. Later she moved to Lansing and went to work for Young Brothers and Daley. Ruth was a remarkable woman of many talents; her passion for woodworking and ability to create beautiful things earned her recognition from the Lansing State Journal, which fittingly dubbed her 'the female Bob Vila.' Even in her 70s, Ruth's quest for learning never ceased. She took up sewing and stitching, proving that age was merely a number and not a barrier to acquiring new skills. Above all, Ruth was a devoted mother who always put her children first and was a beacon of love, warmth, and wisdom to them.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandy (Steve) Black, Dawn Harrington; granddaughters, Jenna (Bryce) Maj, Rachel (Matt) DeBar; great grandchildren, Gracelynn, Madison, Teddy, Mason, Brynn, Joelle, Vivienne; special nieces, Nancy Corbin Bray, Susan Ellsworth as well as many more nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence Wood, seven siblings including her twin brother, Richard and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Skinner Funeral Home, 101 W. Jolly Rd. Lansing, MI 48910. Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Corewell Health Hospice 1239 E. Beltline Ave. NE Grand Rapids, MI 49520. To share memories and condolences please visit www.SkinnerFuneralHomes.com
