Ruth Wormley Obituary
Remembering the life of Ruth Marie Wormley
Ruth Marie Wormley, age 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away in Surprise, Arizona on October 26, 2024. Ruth was born on February 26, 1951 in Garrett, Indiana to the late Robert and Phyllis O'Brien.
Ruth graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City, Indiana in 1969. She went on to graduate from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Indiana. While being a stay at home mom, Ruth went back to college and obtained her Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Programming at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She combined her nursing background with her programming experience as an informatics software developer for Catholic Health Initiatives.
Ruth enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and beloved husband. Family and friends were a huge joy in her life. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them how to cook and sew. She was an avid reader and watched her cooking and sewing shows faithfully. Ruth was a skilled seamstress, quilter, embroiderer as well as creating many other crafting projects. She utilized her talents by making many quilts, pillow cases, hand towels, clothes, and jewelry pieces. Ruth also made a variety of clothing items for local community shelters and African mission projects for her church. She enjoyed using her technical skills working with the audio/visual team at church. She was very active in her church community and a faithful servant of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and Tom O'Brien; and nephews, Bobby and Jason O'Brien.
She is survived by her husband John of 52 years; her daughter Christine (Derek) Muller; grandchildren Alex and Bianca; son Michael Wormley; sister Patty (Peter) Tombasco and son Daniel; sister and brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews as well as many other family members.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home.
Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Inurnment to follow at Ridgewood Cemetery.
Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Calvary Chapel FourteenSix,15175 W Mondell Rd. Surprise, AZ 85374 .
Memorials are suggested to your local Cancer Society or Research Center.
