Samuel R. "Sam" Fowler, 35, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Indianapolis. Sam was born in Pune, Maharashtra, India, on July 23, 1990. On November 3, 1991, he was adopted by Steve and Julie (Secrest) Fowler.
Sam graduated from Oak Hill High School, Class of 2009, and attended IWU, Word of Life Bible Institute, and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Sweetser.
Sam was a beacon of light and a devoted servant to his community, known for his unwavering compassion and commitment to the field of law enforcement. He was instrumental in various roles, including serving as Head of the OPO and as a Hostage Negotiator. He held the esteemed title of Director of the Board for Mississinewa 1812 and was an active member of the Honor Guard for the Grant County Sheriff's Department. In 2022, he was awarded the Chaplaincy Deputy of the Year Award-a testament to his dedication and kindness in service to others.
Kind-hearted, faithful, funny, and deeply empathetic, Sam's legacy will live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him. He loved all kinds of music and could play the guitar and drums. He loved his children and family dearly. Even after death, he continues to give-Sam was a donor.
He is survived by his loving parents, Steven and Julie Fowler; his devoted sister, Katelyn (Zachary) Adkins; his beloved children, Judah and Gracelyn Fowler; his cherished grandmother, Roberta Fowler; and his nephews, Zaden, Jaxon, Hudson, and Keaton Adkins.
Samuel was preceded in death by his niece, Brayleigh Adkins; his brother, Thomas Fowler; his grandfathers, Maxwell Fowler and Russell Secrest; and his grandmother, Phyllis Secrest.
Arrangements for Sam were entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebrations Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. As we remember Sam's genuine spirit and infectious laughter, we invite his family, friends, and community to join us in celebrating his life. All services will be held at the Gas City Performing Arts Center, 100 Auditorium Drive, Gas City, Indiana 46933 . On Monday, August 4, 2025, there will be visitation from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and again from 6:00-8:00 P.M. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., officiated by Terry Bishir. Burial will immediately follow at Gardens of Memory, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grant County Sheriff's Chaplaincy Program, 214 E. 4th Street, Marion, Indiana 46952-reflecting Sam's commitment to helping those in need.
