Sandra Lee "Sandy" Coffin Hastings passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 1, 2025, at the age of 71 at Manokin Manor in Princess Anne, Maryland. Born on May 27, 1953, in Lewes, Delaware, she was a woman whose life was defined by her caring nature and her selfless dedication to her family and community.
Sandy's early years were spent in Fruitland, MD to the late Betty and Granville Coffin; later in life, she settled in
Salisbury, MD, where she raised her own family. She grew up alongside her siblings Maxine Webb, and the late David, Dale, and Billy Coffin. Sandy's passion for helping others was evident from a young age, leading her to pursue a career in the medical and mental health fields.
Her educational journey began at James M. Bennett High School. Following that, she attended Peninsula Regional Hospital School of Nursing. Sandy furthered her studies at Salisbury University (then Salisbury State College), earning a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. This combination of nursing and social work equipped her with a unique set of skills that she used to touch the lives of countless individuals.
Professionally, Sandy was a Registered Nurse at Deer's Head Center and Eastern Shore Hospital Center. Later, she transitioned into social work, eventually becoming the Wicomico County Director of Go-Getters, an organization that provided rehabilitation and social services to individuals and the community. Her empathetic nature and dedication to helping people made her an invaluable asset to her colleagues and those she served.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sandy was a loving wife to her late husband, Bill Hastings, and a cherished mother to Trey Hastings and Beth Hastings. Sandy's interests were varied, as she was an attentive, devoted gardener and avid reader. She also loved watching her soap operas and taking afternoon naps.
Described by those who knew her best as loving, thoughtful, and selfless, Sandy's legacy is one of quiet strength and profound kindness. Her gentle spirit and generous heart left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know her.
As Sandy's physical presence is missed, her spirit endures in the love she shared, the lives she improved, and the community she nurtured. Her memory will be forever cherished by her family, including her son, Trey Hastings; daughter-in-law, Courtney Hastings; daughter, Beth Hastings; son-in-law, Danny Doeberling; grandson, Wynn Doeberling; sister, Maxine Webb; and the many other family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives she touched.
Sandra Lee Coffin Hastings lived a life rich in love, service, and kindness. Her departure from this world leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have been part of her journey. Sandy's memory will be celebrated and held dear in the hearts of her loved ones and all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held at a later date to remember Sandy's life and impactful legacy.
