Sara R. Port

Sara R. (Henney) Port, 97, of Huntingdon, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2023, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Warren L. and Lillian (Dillon) Henney. She was united in marriage to John William Port who preceded her in death on September 13, 2003.
Sara is survived by two sons and a grandson, Stephen D. Port of Menlo Park, CA, John Michael Port and Robert Christopher Port, both of Greenville, MI.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Alice Jean (Tinker) Port; and two brothers, Edgar Henney and wife, Theresa, and Robert Lee Henney.
Mrs. Port was a lifelong member of the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, where she previously taught Sunday School and served on various church boards.
She was a charter member of the Standing Stone Garden Club, Huntingdon, serving as past president and officer; and also held office at the District Garden Club for 20 years. She was also a member of the Embroidery Guild of America; worked with the Huntingdon County Board of Elections; and volunteered for 20 years with the Huntingdon Meals-on-Wheels program.
She attended Huntingdon public schools and was a 1944 graduate of Huntingdon High School.
In her early adulthood, Mrs. Port was employed by the former J.C. Blair Company, Huntingdon, for several years. After her marriage, she and her husband, who was serving in the United States Army, were stationed in the United States and Europe during the 1940's and 1950's. After returning to Huntingdon in 1958, she worked for the Bureau of Employment Security, Huntingdon, until her retirement in 1986.
Sara was an avid gardener who loved holly trees of all types, having planted many varieties. She enjoyed reading mysteries and, in her later years, was greatly appreciative of the community of caregivers at Home Instead and Westminster Woods.
A private graveside service was held with the Reverend Richard Harter, Family Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Interment was made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon.
