Sarah Allen Obituary
SARAH ALLEN: LOVING WIFE, AMAZING MOTHER, SPIRITED SISTER AND CHERISHED FRIEND
On July 9, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Sarah completed her journey here on Earth. Sarah was a beautiful person inside and out. She had a successful career, but the three most important parts of her life were Family, Friends and Faith. That was where she thrived. These three areas intersected and worked together throughout her life for the betterment of all she knew.
Born to Robert and Isla DeVries on August 11, 1959, Sarah grew up with her parents, big brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other family. After college she met Roger Allen, to whom she became engaged. Roger and Sarah had a strong focus on their faith. They were true soul mates. She and Roger married on August 23, 1997. In 2004, they adopted Carly who made their family complete. The joy Carly brought to their lives is impossible to describe. They were always there for each other.
Sarah's parents predeceased her. Surviving besides her husband Roger and daughter Carly are her brother Ted (MaryAnn) DeVries, sister-in-law Joanne Allen and brothers-in-law Russ (Kat) Allen, Bruce (Deb) Allen, and Doug (Laurie) Allen. She also has cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and special friends who will miss her.
It has been said that Sarah never met a stranger, but she did meet potential friends. Sarah was always welcoming and open to getting to know a new friend. She was interested in people and listened to their ideas. Everyone who did become friends with Sarah was a better person for it. Sarah was blessed with many exceptional friends who enriched her life just as she did for them.
Sarah's faith was not a separate part of her life but penetrated all that she did. She and Roger volunteered regularly to help the church such as in children's ministry, ushering, and mentoring engaged couples before they got married.
When Carly attended Cedarville University, Sarah and Roger became members of the Parent Leadership Council, mentoring other parents to the joys and challenges of university life for them and their children. Everything Sarah did and everything she believed was based on her faith.
When illness became a challenge in Sarah's life, she found ways to help others going through the same challenges. These ways to help others were all based on her faith and belief in the works of God. There was no end to the prayers that came back to her during her journey.
Sarah's journey now continues in Heaven. One of her last wishes was to let her friends and family know, "I love you and I will continue to cheer you on. We will see each other again in Heaven."
Please join the family in celebrating Sarah Allen's life on July 20 with a visitation at 10 a.m. and a service starting at 11 a.m. These will be at the Woodside Bible Church, Romeo Campus located at 7800 32 Mile Rd in Washington, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts be made in memory of Sarah Allen to Cedarville University. These donations will support tuition for students at the university, which was dear to her heart. Gifts can be made online at Cedarville.edu/give or by mail to Advancement Division, 251 N. Main St., Cedarville, OH 45314. Please make checks payable to "Cedarville University" and put Sarah Allen's name on the memo line.
