After almost eight decades of love and laughter, Sarah Coleman Shurden,
79, went freely into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 26, 2024, at her home in West Point. She is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 26 years, Preston Shurden as well as her daughter-in-law: Michelle Eddy Spencer; Sisters: Donna Walker and Mary Akins; Brothers: Billy and J.W. Coleman.
Sarah was one of six children born to the late J.B. and Annie Estelle Card
Coleman on June 3, 1945, in Pittsboro, Mississippi. She spent 36 years working at Bryan Foods to support her family as well as her addiction to designer shoes. She loved her family more than anything else in this world, except for maybe her devoted Pomeranians, Gabby and Bree. On Friday nights, Sarah could be found at the Junction dancing the night away with Buddy Chadwick. On the weekend, Sarah visited with friends and family and could occasionally be found in the shoe department at Belk. Mondays were reserved for playing Spinner and telling stories with her good friends. The rest of the week she could be found in her recliner with her fur baby by her side as she watched re-runs of The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, and most importantly her soap operas. Sarah was a social butterfly who enjoyed making others smile and laugh. She spoke fluent sarcasm and could be known to make family and friends blush from time to time, especially her daughter and granddaughters. Over her lifetime, her radiant
personality gained her several close friends.
Arrangements are incomplete at his time and will be announced as they become available. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Sarah is survived by her two children: Lisa Spencer Clardy (Earl) and Chris Spencer, and their father Nicky Spencer; step-children: David Shurden (Jill) and Darius Shurden (Gena) and their families; five grandchildren: Nat Spencer, Nicole Clardy Barksdale (Blake), Kristen Spencer Gosa (Joshua), Austin Clardy (Jessica) and Dessirrie Clardy; eight great-grandchildren: Sarah Cade Barksdale, Aria Gosa, Issac Barksdale, Josh Gosa, Coleson Clardy, Wesley Spencer, Lauren Spencer and Bodie Clardy; one sister: Virginia Gillespie; one sister-in-law: Judy Coleman. She also leaves behind a closet full of fashionable jewelry, shoes, hats and clothing for her daughter and granddaughters to fight over.
Memorials may be made In Memory of Sarah Shurden to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105 or LeBonheur Children's Hospital, 848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38103.
