Scott Sylvester was born on February 23, 1962 in Ashtabula, OH and died on March 10, 2023 in Louisville, KY.
Scott graduated from Jefferson Area High School in OH in 1980. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He received an Honorable discharge and returned to Ashtabula, OH.
He became a police officer for Geneva, OH and served over 5 years on the force.
He moved to Amarillo, TX in 1986 where he worked for a pharmacy and later at the Post Office. In 1987, he met the love of his life, Darcy Youngblood. He fell in love and asked her to be his wife. They were married on May 27, 1989.
While still working at the Post Office, he attended West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX and graduated a short time later. With a Computer Information Systems degree, he was quickly hired at Pantex in Amarillo, TX.
After working for Pantex for several years, he was hired by LG&E in Louisville, KY where he and Darcy made their new home. He was later hired by the Department of Defense at Ft. Knox and was a Software Developer.
Scott was so kind and giving he helped people who didn't ask, but he knew when there was a need and he would generously help.
He was so gifted and talented and spent many happy hours doing something he loved every day from martial arts training to his artwork to spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Rusty.
While in High School, he began his martial arts in Shotokan Karate and earned his Black Belt. He enjoyed this so much he wanted to spend the rest of his life learning and growing in this sport. In Amarillo, he earned his Black Belt in Judo and in Louisville, he continued in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and other forms of self-defense, but he especially loved Balintawak Eskrima with his friends at Iron Body Fitness.
Scott also loved to program and would do it during his spare time. He selflessly created webpages for individuals and businesses at no charge.
He especially loved to draw and paint and began using a digital display for his artwork. He would spend hours on a drawing until it was perfect and often gave away his artwork. He carried over his artistic talents into his home remodeling.
He continued to love aviation and built and flew remote control model airplanes. He had plans to enter aviation and work toward his pilot's license.
He loved music and enjoyed listening to live bands and dancing with his wife. But most of all he loved spending time with Darcy and taking Rusty to Starbucks for Lattes and a Puppy Cup then watch the planes at Bowman Field.
He is survived by his wife, Darcy Youngblood Sylvester. His Mother Lorrie Crews and husband, Joe, Amarillo, TX. Sister, Monica Blackwell (Kerry), Amarillo, TX. His Mother and Father-in-Law, Grace and Adrian D. Youngblood, Amarillo, TX and Sister-in-Law, Adrianne Youngblood-Pohl, San Diego, CA.
Scott accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 22 and never wavered from his faith.
Scott was predeceased in death by many relatives that he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Southeast Christian Church - Chapel in the Woods, 1407 Moser Rd. Visitation will be 2:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home in Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Rd, and on Friday, March 17, at Chapel in the Woods, from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
