Sean Ryan Bittner, 38, of Cocoa, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Born on April 13, 1986, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Sean's life was marked by laughter, generosity, and deep devotion to the people and passions he loved. Sean spent his early years in Derwood, Maryland, before moving with his family to Gaithersburg in 1992, and then settling in Woodbine in 1999. He graduated from South Carroll High School in 2004. After a brief time at Frostburg State University, Sean discovered his true calling and enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served for ten years as a Missile Technician in the Navy, where he achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer. Sean was stationed aboard two Ohio-class submarines-the USS Maine and later the USS Alabama. In 2006, he earned his dolphins-the Submarine Warfare insignia awarded to those who complete the rigorous qualifications required for service aboard submarines. This honor symbolized Sean's technical expertise, resilience, and unshakable commitment to his fellow submariners. Following his military service, Sean continued his career with BAE Systems. He briefly worked for JRC Integrated Systems before returning to BAE, where he brought the same discipline and dedication he was known for in the Navy. Sean had a lifelong love of sports. He was a passionate supporter of the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins), and also cheered fiercely for the Orioles, Capitals, and Maryland Terrapins. He loved to travel-especially enjoying cruises-and had a deep appreciation for comedy, often attending stand-up shows whenever he had the chance. Above all, Sean will be remembered as a kind and generous soul, always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. Sean is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his mother and stepfather, Lisa and Phillip Harris; his father and stepmother, Gregory and Leah Bittner; his brothers, Jason Bittner and Evan Harris; his sisters, Jessie Bittner and Crystal Shank (Eric); nieces and nephews to whom he was the greatest uncle; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Lorraine Durbin and Charles and Marjorie Bittner. A Celebration of Life will be held in Sean's honor on Sunday, April 13, 2025-what would have been his 39th birthday-at the Knights of Columbus in Derwood, Maryland. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m., with doors opening at noon to allow time for guests to arrive and gather in remembrance. Sean's spirit, service, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
