Sgt. Jeremy D. McCoy was a beloved law enforcement officer, whose unexpected passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken. He passed away on June 11, 2023, at the young age of 36. Born on December 24, 1986, in Dallas, Texas, Jeremy was the son of Larry McCoy and Chris Ward McCoy. He attended Kemp High School and graduated in 2005. After completing his education, he started his career in Law Enforcement as a Telecommunicator with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office in 2006. His dedication to serving the community earned him numerous accolades and appreciation from his colleagues. In May 2022, Sgt. McCoy joined the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office as a Patrol Deputy. His hard work and commitment to duty soon led to his promotion to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in September of the same year. Sergeant McCoy held an advanced Peace Officer's License and an Advanced Telecommunicator's License through TCOL. He had several certifications that included Field Training Officer, Basic TCOLE Instructor, and First Line Supervisor as well as numerous other training certificates. Jeremy was known for his infectious smile and a great sense of humor that never failed to lighten up a room. He loved to have a good time and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids. His sudden passing has left a huge void in the lives of those who knew him personally and professionally. However, he will be remembered for his service to the community and his unwavering dedication to protecting people's lives. He is survived by his wife Tiffanie McCoy, sons Kason McCoy, Tucker McCoy, Jeremy Scott McCoy, along with one daughter who adored their father very much. He is also survived by his sister Trisha Myers and husband Terry, brother Larry McCoy nephews Joey Myers, Levi Myers, and Austin Westbrook amongst others. He is preceded in death by his parents Larry McCoy (father) and Chris McCoy (mother). Sgt. Jeremy D. McCoy lived a full life and loved passionately those in it. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him for years to come. Rest in peace Sgt. McCoy, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
