Shaun Alexander Loftus passed away on November 10, 2024, in Chatham, NJ after a long, courageous battle with colon cancer. He was known for his tremendous sense of humor and carefree optimism. He was an avid sports enthusiast who loved the Cowboys, Yankees, and Georgetown Basketball. Every Thanksgiving there would be a television on and muted during dinner so as not to miss a second of the Dallas game.
Shaun was born in Morristown, NJ on November 6, 1972, to Joseph and Alexandra (Lampi) Loftus. He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School where he was a star basketball player. He graduated in 1991 from Delbarton School where he played basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. He attended Georgetown University and graduated in 1995 with a degree in finance. He worked for Fiserv at the time of his passing.
Shaun was a devoted and loving father to his three children: Colin (Meatball), Elizabeth (Eli or Ellie), and Caitlin (Keeks or Kiki). He left personalized notes every day in their lunchboxes when they were in elementary school. Every morning, his kids would climb into bed with him and drink chocolate milk before heading off to school. When they were little, Shaun would cash in every morning on his kids' "walk on your back" coupons. Sunday mornings were reserved for bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches with Led Zeppelin blasting in the background with Ellie on guitar and Caitlin on drums. Shaun was his kids' biggest fan and never missed one of their sporting events! Shaun was also a great uncle, and his nieces have fond memories of him transforming their hair to "Triceratops haircut"! The nieces and nephews knew to hide their Halloween candy when Uncle Shaun visited because he had a notorious sweet tooth. Charleston Chews were his favorite!
Shaun had a soft spot for dogs. His bulldog Zimmer (named after legendary Yankee coach Don Zimmer) had lineage to the Georgetown bulldog mascot. Zimmer was a loyal companion to his entire family until 2009 and even was a guest at Shaun's wedding. Years later, Shaun and his kids adopted Skyler, a beautiful, loyal German Shepherd who is greatly missing Shaun right now.
Shaun will always be remembered for his quick wit and his love of ripped jeans, converse sneakers, and a sharp-looking blazer. We were truly blessed with his dedication to family. He was an amazing father, son, brother, and uncle. His memory will live in the hearts of all those who loved him. He will forever be missed.
Shaun was preceded in death by his father Joseph X. Loftus. He is survived by his three children, Ann Macko Loftus, mother of Shaun's children, his mother Alexandra, his siblings Maureen Loftus Budny (Alex), Joseph Loftus, and Megan Loftus McCartney (Brendan). In addition, he is survived by his nieces and nephews Alessandra, Grayson, Karleigh, Kayla, Ryan, Maddie, Maeve, and Eamonn.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Bradley, Brough & Dangler, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shaun's celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. at Charley's Aunt Restaurant, 8-10 S. Passaic Avenue, Chatham, NJ where he was a regular at the bar.
"Oh, all of my love, all of my love. Oh, all of my love to you." ~ Led Zeppelin
