Shawn Dailey

Shawn Dailey, 58, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on September 3, 2025. He was born on November 3, 1966, to Virginia Ann Dailey and the late Thomas Richard Dailey.
Shawn grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Jefferson High School, where he was a standout basketball player. He set the school record for most points scored-a record he proudly held for decades. His passion for the game carried throughout his life, from his college days attending Marion University to his years of cheering on the Indiana Pacers, especially during their recent incredible run to the finals. Some of his fondest memories were shooting hoops in the yard with his son and his nephew and teaching them the game he loved.
For over many years, Shawn worked in construction, building with dedication and pride. Outside of work, he was known for his love of Elvis, his all-time favorite movie Hoosiers, and his appreciation for the food spreads at every holiday gathering. He was happiest surrounded by family and friends, sharing laughter, watching the game, and offering up his signature one-liners.
Shawn is survived by his children, Drew Dailey (Ashley) and Emily Dailey; his mother, Virginia Ann Dailey; his siblings, Kim Rusk (Ronnie) of Lafayette and Jim Dailey (Cheryl) of Lafayette; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Richard Dailey, and his daughter, Katherine Dailey.
Those who knew Shawn will remember his easy smile, love for the game of basketball, and his unforgettable humor. His favorite phrase lives on: "That's a fact, Jack-put it on the board and take it to the bank and cash it."
