Shirla June "Junie" Joos, 87, of Washington, IL died peacefully at 5:02 pm Saturday, March 1, 2025 at her home.
Born on February 22, 1938 in Peoria, IL to James A. and Dorothy A. Burton Thomas, she married Frederick G. Joos Jr. on September 6, 1959 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 daughters; Lori (Jim) Maddock of Winter Garden, FL, Annette (Brian) Carson of Yorkville, IL and Mindy (Tim) Cheatham of Washington, IL, 1 sister; Pat Essig of Aledo, IL, 8 grandchildren; Caitlin (Brock) Maddock-Bahr, Carly Maddock (Benji Cashdollar), Cody (Megan Hand) Maddock, Kyle (Christina Carstens) Swanson, Brett (Sarah Walker) Swanson, Scott (Jade) Swanson, Nick Bell and Terrance Bell, and 6 great-grandchildren; Carter, Casey, Madison, Lucia, Aaliyah, and Riley June.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lonnie Thomas.
Shirla was a great mom who enjoyed raising her 3 daughters with Fred by her side. She also was a great homemaker and cook. Shirla helped Fred decorate many newly built homes in Washington and enjoyed working at Sentimental Journey in Washington for many years.
She enjoyed traveling with Fred and various friends to places like Florida, Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska. She and Fred even went deer hunting once, and Shirla shot a deer. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
Services for Shirla will be at 11 am Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Heart Association.
