Shirley Pauline (Bourke) Dietz, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2025, at the Highlands campus of the Nazareth Home in Louisville, Kentucky, after a prolonged illness. Shirley was born on November 26th, 1936, in the Germantown area of Louisville.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Jerome Dietz Sr.; her parents, Timothy Thomas Bourke Sr. and Anna Julia Oswald Bourke; and her siblings, Edwin George Bourke, Timothy Thomas Bourke Jr. (Mary Catherine), Joseph Patrick Bourke (Bernita), Walter Joseph Bourke (Gaye), William Lawrence Bourke (Christine), Mary Ann Bourke Helm (William) and Patricia Aileen Bourke Herdt.
Shirley leaves behind her four children, Anna Lucia Gerber (David), Mary Nina Tarullo (Phil), Robert Jerome Dietz Jr. and Anna Maria Pitts (Steven); along with her six grandchildren, John Anthony Tarullo (Adrienne), Robert Bryant Gerber, Anna Maria Tarullo, Elizabeth Ann Gerber, Elena Lucia Ugarak (Mirza), Nina Olivia Dietz; and one great-grandson, Alexander Jerome Gerber.
Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Cosma Dietz Passafiume; brother-in-law, Donald Herdt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a devout Catholic and member of St. Louis Bertrand Church. She was a proud graduate of Mercy Academy. She enjoyed keeping up with news and current events, playing bingo with her siblings, and shopping trips with her sisters.
Above all, Shirley cherished family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Danielle, Katie, Ketiya, Katelin and Alex, who provided compassionate and gentle care for Shirley during her last year at Nazareth Home. Special thanks also to Casandra Jones, her at-home caregiver for 7 years.
Visitation will be 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, June 25th, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Her funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, June 26th, at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. Sixth Street, with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy made be made to St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church.
