Shirley Hardy Hitch, born on March 6, 1934, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024. A proud graduate of the University of Arkansas, Shirley earned her Bachelor of Arts in French in 1955 before embarking on a rich and fulfilling life dedicated to family and community. Shortly after her graduation, she married in 1956 and moved to Colorado to support her husband's career in geology.
In the years that followed, Shirley became a devoted homemaker, welcoming two sons, Carston in 1959 and Reed in 1962. Her interests spanned finance, economics, astrology, and theology, showcasing her insatiable curiosity and love for learning. She actively participated in her sons' lives, always present at their sporting events, helping with homework, and encouraging their involvement in things like theater, cub scouts, swimming and other sports
After the passing of her husband Carston Sr., Shirley found joy and purpose in spending time with her son, Carston Jr., until his untimely death. In her later years, she moved to Lubbock, Texas, to be nearer to Reed and his family, cherishing the moments she spent with her grandchildren: Meagan, Julia, Collin, Quentin, and Christopher. Shirley's warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for her family will be remembered and celebrated.
A memorial service to honor Shirley's life will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel on January 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Her ashes will be lovingly stored in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas Columbarium at St Nicholas Church in Flower Mound, Tx
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Carston Hitch, III, brother Dr. H.D Hardy, and son Carston Hitch, IV.
