Shirley Mae Krutulis, age 79, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia after a period of declining health.
Born in Dover, on June 3, 1946, Shirley was the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Hazel Gerber of Dover, who preceded her in death.
Shirley was a 1964 graduate of Dover High School. Upon her graduation, Shirley spent her career working in the retail and banking industries. She was most proud of working at Shoe Corporation of America for more than 15 years, and had great admiration for the owner, Mr. Robert Schiff. After leaving Shoe Corporation of America, Shirley finished her career in the banking industry working for National City Bank and Huntington National Bank.
Shirley’s life was filled with simple joys. She loved gardening, flowers, playing tennis, spending time with close friends and family. With friends, she especially enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Shirley loved nature, including the birds and small creatures around her condo garden. But Shirley’s biggest love was for dogs. She had numerous dogs during her lifetime, and treated them with love, and shared the love of her dogs with friends and family.
Shirley will be missed by her sister, Virginia (Todd) Whetstone of Sugarcreek; her brother, Bob (Jane) Gerber of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Leslie Vassar of Clyde, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews, Jenna (Andy) Greene of Sunbury, Ohio, Rachel (Mark) Goldman of Columbus, Kelly (Ian) Strickland, Jonathan (Enjoli) Gerber of Durham, North Carolina, David (Windi) Gerber of Fort Mill, South Carolina as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cremation care will take place at Shirley’s direction. There will be no calling hours, and those wishing to celebrate Shirley’s life can do so at her Celebration of Life, to be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N Wooster Ave. at Dover, Ohio.
Memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to Ohio’s Hospice - Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
