Mrs. Shirley Ann Putman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Friday. October 11, 2024 at Vassar Comfort Care, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 22, 1945 to the late William and May Auernhamer. Shirley’s life was defined by her dedication to family.
A proud graduate of Vassar High School in 1963, Shirley began her career working for Frankenmuth Mutual. She and Larry owned and operated Vassar Building Center, a role she fulfilled with passion and commitment until her retirement in 2012.
Shirley was deeply engaged in her community and created a warm home for her family. She enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping, and crafting, often sharing these hobbies with her loved ones. Further, Shirley was a lifetime member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, fostering strong bonds with each generation.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Larry Putman; daughters, Brenda (Michael) MacKay and Linette (Brian) Redick; grandchildren, Alexis (Jeff) Walsh, Hilary (Jeremy) Schiefer, Tanner (Layne) MacKay, Bailey MacKay, Elijah Redick, and Ethan Redick; great-grandchildren, Bo Walsh, Sloane Walsh, Lucille Walsh, Nola Schiefer, Willow Schiefer, Huxton Schiefer, Scout MacKay, and Crew MacKay; brother, William Auernhamer; sister-in-law, Esther (Allen) Thornton; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents William & May; siblings, Floyd Auernhamer and Dorothy Schlicht; sister-in-law, Sonja; and brother-in-law, John.
Shirley's family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Funeral services for Shirley will be at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM; additional visitation at church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Rite of committal to follow in St. Michael's Lutheran Cemetery.
