Sondra Haimowitz

LAWRENCE – SONDRA HAIMOWITZ passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Morris Hall St. Mary's Residence in Lawrence Township with family at her bedside and after spending a short time in hospice care. She was 90 years old.
She was born in New York, NY, to Nathan and Ethel (née Rosenblatt) Becker.
Sondra grew up in the East Village of New York City, where she attended Seward Park High School. Her nearby neighbors included her husband to be, Oscar. Sondra and Oscar eloped in Maryland and began their lives together in lower Manhattan. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Jackson Heights, Queens, and then to Co-Op City in the Bronx. Eventually they relocated to New Jersey to be closer to their grandchildren.
Sondra, after marriage and initially attending Hunter College, completed her Bachelor's degree while attending classes as part of a weekend program at Marymount College. She went on to do the same for her Master's at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She spent most of her working career as a Financial Auditor for Citibank on Wall Street.
Sondra loved to take cruise vacations to the Caribbean Islands and to Europe with Oscar and her Aunt Shirley, where she enjoyed fine dining and shopping for pocketbooks, jewelry, and watches. Both Sondra and Oscar made numerous trips across the US, including to Maine, to enjoy fresh lobsters. She was an original Frank Sinatra bobbysoxer and went to his concerts throughout his career. Sondra also attended concerts of her other favorite performer, Barbara Streisand. Sondra loved her Oscar deeply. She cared for all of her children and was especially thrilled with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Haimowitz; her parents, Nathan and Ethel Becker; her son-in-law, Stephen Galle; and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Haimowitz.
She leaves behind her children, Laura Galle, Mark Haimowitz, Ira Haimowitz and his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Melissa Haimowitz Clouse (Peter Clouse), Rebecca Mueller (Nick Mueller), Nathan Haimowitz, Eva Haimowitz, and Deborah Haimowitz; and her great-grandchildren, Oscar Clouse and Eloise Mueller.
A chapel service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 10:15 am, at MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, NJ. Interment will follow at Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. For directions, please view our "Events" listed below.
