Sister Sonya Hsieh (11-5-1949 to 6-3-2024)
Born in Miaoli, Taiwan, she is the youngest child in her family. Growing up in the countryside, she developed a love of nature and independence. She is talented, loves reading, and has a wide range of knowledge. She completed her studies at Taipei First Girls' Senior High School and graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at a first-class University- Taiwan University.
After graduating from college, to support financially and take care of the young children in her older sister's family, she taught at Fengyuan Business High School in Taichung. She began her career as a teacher. She guided students with her profound English knowledge and cultural connotations; and was deeply loved!
In the early 1980s, she went to Pennsylvania, USA, to further her studies, and obtained a master's degree. Later, she was employed as a Chinese teacher at Haverford High School. Sonya understood the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and carefully designed various teaching plans. Her students of various cultural backgrounds not only experienced the language and Chinese characters but also appreciated the beauty and in-depth cultural exploration in the language learning process. Half of her lifetime of dedication has educated countless students. She also won the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" award issued by the school, which was one of the highlights of her personal life achievement!
Sonya has devoted her whole life to education, leading students with great enthusiasm, from cultural exploration to in-depth field knowledge, and she further learned and experienced the true meaning of life. Inspired by the great love of Christ Jesus who laid down His life for the world and the power of resurrection, Sonya was baptized as a Christian in 2014. She was committed to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and serving as a board member of the church. In the last stage of her life, she was blessed with the care of the church pastor & wife, deacons, and brothers and sisters of the church. Sonya has never forgotten her gratitude towards the church members who took care of her! The kindness of the church and the church members deeply touched Sonya’s family!
Sister Sonya Hsieh went to the Lord on June 3, 2024, in West Chester, PA surrounded by her loving family.
Sister Sonya's family, church brothers & sisters, and friends will miss her forever!
May God of hope grant us comfort and peace; and assure us that we shall be reunited in the future with Sister Sonya again in Heaven!
