He was born on September 9, 1957, in De Soto MO to the late Stanley Edgar Backer, Sr. and Jo Ann
Backer. He worked as an elevator mechanic and retired after thirty years of service. He also worked
at Lexington Golf Course for seven years. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of forty eight years
Robin Backer. Also left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Sunshine Nelson and her
husband Matthew of Myrtle Beach SC, Ashley Johnson and her husband Woody of Lexington NC.
Five granddaughters and one grandson, Shelby Leabhart and her husband Brent, Mariah and
Makenna Nelson all of Myrtle Beach, SC, Isabelle and Autumn Johnson of Lexington NC. James
Sevey and his parents David and Beth Sevey of Bentonville AR; Two great-grandchildren Ansley and
Rhett Leabhart.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, 2PM at Center Church of
Welcome. The family will receive friends and family from 1-2 at the church.
