Stanley Elkins, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 29, 1942, he was the beloved son of the late Challie and Catherine Elkins. Growing up he was the eldest of his siblings and was a loving brother to Geraldine (Gary) Masching, Augusta (Mike) Bean, and Tracey Carneal. He was preceded in death by his siblings Deana (Charles) Lineberger, Josephine Elkins-Forrieder, and Challie Elkins Jr. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Forrieder.
Stanley was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 59 years, Virginia Elkins (nee Hartman), whom he held dear and cherished the multiple decades of companionship and love.
A dedicated father, Stanley is survived by his children, Thomas (the late Jeannie) Elkins and Linda (Christopher) Coleman. He was a proud Papa to Alex (Samantha) Pashukewich, Kayla Elkins, and Isabella Coleman, and a cherished Great-Papa to Liam and Caiden. He is also survived by a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Stanley had a deep passion for fixing and creating. He was a master of home improvements with a penchant for building decks. He loved building windmills and numerous birdhouses. If something was broken, Stanley could fix it, and his love for tools was unmatched. He was always looking out for others and was ready to help when he could. He had a knack for working on cars and clocks, amassing an impressive collection of the latter.
He found great joy in the outdoors, spending his days gardening, fishing-especially for salmon in Canada-and enjoying time up north in Michigan, where he continued his favorite pastimes. He loved being outside all day long. Saturdays and Sundays were reserved for trips to the flea market, where he loved hunting for treasures.
Stanley was also a devoted companion to his beloved dog, Gordie, and his cherished cats, Pepper and Tulip.
A man of great skill, patience, and generosity, Stanley will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the many projects he built, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://www.lls.org
