In Memoriam:
Stephen John Borkowski Sr. peacefully left this earth at the age of 94 in Jensen Beach, FL on July 15th, 2023. He was born to a Polish immigrant family on September 24th, 1928, in New Britain, CT and shortly afterwards moved to Greenpoint in Brooklyn, NY where his father established several bakery shops.
In 1940, the family moved to New Haven, CT and Steve graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1945; he was the only one of his family to graduate high school. Shortly after graduation, Steve enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during World War II. After the war, he graduated from New Haven Teacher College (now Southern Connecticut State University) with a teacher's degree in Mathematics, Physics and Earth Sciences. He was recalled to the Navy during the Korean war and was commissioned as an Ensign. Following the war's end, he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. Steve then began a 35-year teaching profession in the Wallingford, CT school system; first at Simpson school as the first male teacher then at Lyman Hall High School and lastly at James H. Moran Sr. Junior High School. During his career he attained a Master of Science in Geology. Steve loved meeting his former students who told them they did not like him in school because he was a tough teacher but realized later, he made them a better people, thanking him for it. Steve retired from teaching in 1989 and moved to Florida to be with his remaining brother Stanley. During his retirement he was an active tennis player, avid swimmer and a notable dancer. Steve was hired as a Host aboard the S.S. Rotterdam dancing around the world for 99 days, meeting stars from Phyllis Diller, Neil Sedaka, and Cab Calloway, who were flown in to entertain guests.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Alexander and mother Helen (nee Zbirowski), sisters Connie and Anita, brothers Chet, Stanley and Teddy. He is survived by his ex-wife Barbara Becker of Wallingford, CT, sons Stephen Jr. and wife Weida of Pittsburg, TX, William (Marilyn) of Fargo, ND, David and wife Lee Anne of Madison, CT, and his daughter, Susan Wiese and husband Dwight of Wallingford, CT. Steve had 9 grandchildren Aubrey Ella, Jenny Hare (Tyler) Katie Borkowski, Nick Borkowski, Erin Huckle (Brett) Lauren Boucher (Don), Allyson Ramos, Alex Borkowski and Zach Borkowski and 7 great-grandchildren, Nephew Michael Borkowski and niece Cookie Tyznik.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Treasure Coast Hospice, with special thanks to Kerline Leonard and to The Brookdale staff, with special thanks to Myrna.
Steve's ashes will be released in the Atlantic Ocean near the Florida beach he loved so well.

To Steve,Bill,Sue,David and your families,

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of your father, a very generous and nice person.

It has been some time since I saw all of you. Just know that I have boatloads of great memories as your neighbor across the street. Those years were, for all of us, our fun years growing up on Ridgenoll Rd. Your father was a very interesting and fun guy! My father also enjoyed a good friendship with him as a neighbor.

Keeping all those great memories alive will always keep him close, you all are in our thoughts and prayers. May he truly Rest In Peace.
