Stephen Sadler Covey, 78, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his cherished family. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, on September 23, 1947, Stephen was the son of the late Herbert and Kathleen Suber Covey.
Steve pursued two distinct and fulfilling careers. He began by earning a BA in Ceramic Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and worked as an engineer for many years. Later in life, driven by a deep passion for caring for others, he returned to school, earned a degree in nursing and served as a dedicated registered nurse.
Through his work in the community, he received the honor of being commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor. Steve also honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. An active member of his community, he was a proud member of Grace Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky,
Steve's greatest joy was his family. He and his beloved wife, Judy, shared a true love story, having been together since the age of 14 and married for 56 years. He treasured simple pleasures, including playing golf with friends and family and losing himself in a good book. His profound pride was centered on his children and grandchildren.
Steve's memory will be carried on by his wife, Judy, and their three children:
Stephanie Covey Price and her husband, Michael Price, of Lexington, KY
Scott Covey and his wife, Michelle Covey, of Davidson, NC
Suzanne Covey Hutchinson and her husband, Randy Hutchinson, of Lexington, KY
The rich legacy of his life continues to grow through his ten beloved grandchildren-Blake Urbanek (Maddie Urbanek), Kathryn Urbanek, Trent, Cameryn, Graham, and Bennett Hutchinson, and Maggie, Payton, Chase, and Jackson Covey-and his two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Ryder Urbanek. He also leaves behind his brother, Drake Covey (Karen Covey), who resides in Lynchburg, VA.
The family will honor his life with a private graveside service at Lexington Cemetery.
