Stephen (Steve) L. Horan, age 69, a resident of Hudson, NH, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Gail F. (McKenna) Horan with whom he enjoyed 43 years of marriage.
He was born in Medford, MA on December 26, 1955, and was the son of the late James E. and Isabelle (Coyne) Horan.
Steve was the youngest of nine children, raised in Arlington, MA. He was a graduate of Matignon High School, where he was an offensive lineman on the varsity football team. His friends still talk about how hard he could hit and how fast he could run. Steve began his professional career as a young teen caddying at Belmont Country Club, following in the shoes of several of his brothers and fostering a love of golf he carried throughout his life. He eventually entered the lumber industry, starting his career off at Brewsters in Wilmington, MA. He then spent many years managing the lumberyard at G.V. Moore Lumber in Ayer, MA. In his later years he ran the outdoor yard at Chelmsford Lumber in Chelmsford, MA. The relationships he built with customers and coworkers throughout his career was a constant source of pride.
Steve was a man of kind and generous temperament, loyal to his friends, and a great partner to share a beer with. Some of his favorite activities included grilling, golfing, camping, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends at the beach, particularly in Ogunquit, ME and Salisbury, MA. Steve enjoyed trivia, campfires, and watching New England sports with his children. He would regularly spend weekends away with his beloved wife Gail on the seacoast, something they both enjoyed.
Despite battling cancer, Steve continued to work at Chelmsford Lumber until he no longer could. He maintained a zest for life, and an intense, fierce love for his family until the end. For the final year of his life Steve often said his baby granddaughter Sylvie was the thing that kept him going, and his time spent with her was a highlight for him and the family.
In addition to his loving wife Gail, Stephen is survived by his four children, Ryan Horan and his wife Meghan Horan and their daughter Sylvie, Shaun Horan, Andrew Horan, and his daughter Kylie Horan and her partner Matt Blaney.
He is survived by his brothers and their wives: Robert and Claire, William and Lisa, and in-laws John Sannella, Nancy Horan, Mary Horan, and Joan Horan. He is predeceased by brothers James, John, Paul, Richard, as well as sisters Isabelle Horan and Maureen Sannella, sister-in-law, Ann Horan, and niece Colleen Horan O'Farrell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 11am to 2pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. His Funeral Service and Interment will be held privately.
