Stephen Walter Martz, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in Texas, at the age of 68. Born on August 13, 1955, in Ohio, Stephen's life was a testament to his intelligence, wisdom, and loving nature.
Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Kyong Martz, and their loving children, Robert Martz (married to Jillian Baker) and Jennifer Martz. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Alexys, Alexa, Mya Lorlei, Benny, Ezekiel, Khaleesi, and Aria Martz. He will also be fondly remembered by his siblings, Gary Martz (Marci), Paula Martz Kline (married to Ron Kline), and David Martz (married to Becky), who shared in the joys and sorrows of life with him.
Stephen proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force before retiring to pursue his passion for helping others. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Social Work, reflecting his commitment to care and advocacy. His professional life included significant contributions to the Santa Rosa Hospital ER, where his calm demeanor and expert skills provided comfort and healing to countless individuals.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stephen's interests painted the picture of a man with a zest for life and a love for creation. He was an avid barbecue enthusiast, often found tending to the grill at family gatherings, his face alight with the joy of cooking for those he loved. Photography was another of Stephen's passions, capturing moments of beauty and significance, freezing them in time for all to cherish. His love for gaming brought a playful spirit to his interactions with friends and family, creating memories filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Stephen's intelligence was evident in every aspect of his life, from his strategic mind in games to his thoughtful conversations on a myriad of topics. His wisdom was sought after by many, as he provided guidance and insight with a gentle and patient demeanor. Above all, Stephen's loving nature was the cornerstone of his existence. His unwavering support and unconditional love for his family and friends were the hallmarks of a life well-lived.
As we say goodbye to Stephen Walter Martz, we celebrate a life that has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit, characterized by kindness, compassion, and a warm smile, will continue to inspire and guide us. Though he may be gone from our sight, the memories we hold dear will ensure that he remains with us, a beacon of the love and grace he so freely gave.
Stephen's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony, where his family and close friends will gather to honor his memory and the profound impact he had on their lives. His story does not end here, for in each of us, the essence of his being lives on, urging us to embrace life with the same fervor and joy that he did.
We take comfort in knowing that Stephen's journey was one of purpose and love, and we are grateful for the time we were blessed to share with him. May we find solace in our cherished memories and in the knowledge that Stephen's spirit remains a guiding light in our lives. Rest in peace, dear Stephen, until we meet again.

First met Steve when we were in the Air Force, in 1977, at Offutt AFB. Both got assignments to Hawaii after that. Drank many beers together over the years. Met up with him and his family again when I got a job with the Army in San Antonio. He was still the same calm Steve! A great guy. I´ll miss him.
