Stephen F. Niemiec, born on October 16, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Riverview, Michigan. He lived a life marked by dedication, commitment, and love for his family and profession.
Stephen worked diligently as a product manager at BASF Corp. in Wyandotte, Michigan, where he spent many fruitful years before retiring. His educational background is noteworthy, as he held two Bachelor's degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, emphasizing his commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the Army, reflecting his sense of duty and service.
Growing up in Ecorse, Michigan, Stephen cultivated strong ties to his community and family, which remained a central pillar in his life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Bettie Niemiec, whose memory he cherished until the end. Stephen was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Niemiec, as well as his parents and siblings, including his brother Paul (the late Charlotte) Niemiec and sister Rose Colburn.
He is survived by his loving son, Dennis (Debra) Niemiec, who will continue his legacy, and a cherished group of grandchildren: Michelle (Kenneth) Alvedy, Brian (Ashley Grudzinskas) Niemiec, Joseph (Amber) Niemiec, Jacob Niemiec, and Eric Cuny. Additionally, Stephen was blessed with great-grandchildren—Gavin, Blake, Natalie, Kennedy, Kenneth, Mackenzie, Dominique, Riley, and Elaina—who brought him immense joy.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI 48183. A rosary will take place that same evening at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, a funeral service will commence at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at 2565 3rd St, Trenton, MI 48183, at 12:00 p.m., with a gathering starting at 11:30 a.m. Following the Mass, Stephen will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 32163 West Huron River Drive, MI 48164, at 2:00 p.m, beginning with military honors being performed by the Downriver Veterans Honor Guard.
Stephen F. Niemiec will be remembered for his contributions to his family, community, and career, held dear by those whose lives he touched. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
