Stephen Edward Schmidt

Stephen Edward Schmidt, 77, of Fishers, Indiana peacefully passed away on May 28, 2025. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Howard G. Schmidt and Mary Lucinda (Oblinger) Schmidt. He spent his childhood on the family farm then graduated from South Side High School Fort Wayne. He received his college degree from Indiana University.
Steve worked at Fort Wayne Wire Die, Travelers Insurance, R.L. Hartley Corp then started his own manufacturing company, Tascon Corp, in 1983 and retired from it in 2024. Steve was well respected and was considered an expert within the diamond cutting tool industry. He was a valued supplier and friend to many customers. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and wisdom as well as learning from others.
He loved fine wines, great food, traveling the world, fast cars, bird hunting, a good joke, reading and enriching the minds of the young. He supported and sponsored robotics and STEM. He mentored many people in starting their own businesses and became the "go to" problem solver for many.
He was a very generous gentleman and did his best to make everyone feel special. He had many friends and was quick with a joke and a laugh as well as a helping hand! He was trustworthy, dependable, entertaining and had a big heart!
Steve is survived by his wife, Eve (Burton) Schmidt, daughter, Mimi (Mitch) Stauffer, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Lu Schmidt and his sister, Cindy Lu Prater.
