Stephen Michael Stewart, age 74, of Starr, SC, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Born November 2, 1950, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Harry Edward Stewart and Inez Catherine Evans Stewart.
Mike was a graduate of Crescent High School Class of 1969. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life on January 30, 1970. They shared a happy, loving home for exactly 55 years. He was a devoted husband, caring father, grandfather, son, brother, father-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend. Mike was employed by the Farm Bureau Insurance Companies as an agent and agency manager for 37 years. During his career, he hired, trained, and mentored many young agents/adjusters who went on to serve in the counties throughout the state of South Carolina. He made it his mission to help the clients he served, adopting Farm Bureau's motto "Helping You Is What We Do Best." Mike continued helping the community prosper by serving on The Peoples Bank Board of Directors until the present time. One of his proudest accomplishments was to chair the fundraising and construction of the Crescent High School Lady Tigers Softball Field of Dreams. He loved watching his granddaughter play sports, enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family & friends, and working alongside his brother, John, on the family farm.
Mike was enlisted in the US Army Reserve for eight years earning the rank of SFC, serving as a Drill Instructor. He attended and supported New Spring Church for a number of years.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marlene Waters Stewart, a son, Jason Michael Stewart (Angela); a daughter, Teresa Stewart Kinert (Chris); brother Harry "Pete" Stewart, Jr.; John William Stewart (Cheryl); a sister Barbara Ann Stewart Munday; grandchildren Callie Christine Kinert and Baby Stewart, on the way. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his father-in-law, Ray Waters and mother-in-law, Norma Waters, who loved him like a son.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Carolyn Stewart.
The family wishes to thank Anderson Area Cancer Center, AnMed Urology, AnMed 4 Center Staff, AnMed ROCU and Interventional Radiology, Lindsay Davis, NP, nurses Megan & Kaitlyn of Hospice of the Upstate, special friend, Pam Mitchell, RN, and Rev. Sam Duncan.
