Steve L. Hamilton passed away on January 20th, 2024. He was born on March 10, 1952, in Owensboro, Kentucky, and left this world surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Steve's high school sweetheart, Janice Hopkins Hamilton, was by his side for 52 years of marriage, and together, they raised their children: Beth Ratliff (Randy) and Aaron Hamilton (Lynsey). He was a cherished grandfather to Marley Broeder (Chris), Haley Hamilton, Scout Ratliff, and Hayden Hamilton. Steve also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Ellis and Henry Broeder.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Gertrude Hamilton, and his sister, Donna Hamilton. Steve grew up in a large family and maintained close ties with his siblings throughout his life. He is survived by his siblings: Joan Fogle (Bill), Rosemary Stearsman Ward, Fran Davis (Phil), Ron Hamilton (Lisa), and Mona Clary (Donnie). They were not just family but also lifelong companions, sharing many cherished moments together.
Steve began his career in healthcare during his military service as a medic in the US Air Force from 1971 to 1975. He pursued his passion further, earning a respiratory therapy degree from the University of Kentucky. Steve worked most of his career at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital before becoming the owner and operator of Owensboro Health Equipment Company with his wife Janice.
Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was known for being full of life, always wearing a smile, and never meeting a stranger. He loved playing football at Owensboro Catholic High and graduated there in 1970. Steve was always laughing, telling a joke, and bringing joy to those around him. An avid photographer and Photoshop guru, his artistic talents captured the beauty of life through his lens, with a special interest in photographing murals and street art around the world during his travels with his wife. He served for several years as the Treasurer of the Louisville Photographic Society (LPS).
Upon retiring, Steve and Janice embraced a life of travel, exploring the world together. Steve's enthusiasm for photography continued to shine as he documented their adventures.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 27th at the Bluegrass Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky with visitation from 2:00 to 3:30 and a memorial service at 3:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Daniel Pitino Shelter or the American Red Cross.
May he rest in peace.

Seldom do you meet someone who leaves an indelible mark on your heart... but Steve certainly did! I met him and Jan on a cruise many years ago, and was honored to become a friend. I´ve kept them in my heart since. What a loving and beautiful couple! Steve could make me laugh with just a look... and I cherish our shared love of Makers! The world was blessed to have him here... and Heaven is now celebrating. I pray that Jan and the family can find comfort in the beautiful memories and legacy he has left... until we meet again!
