Steven Wayne Cutting

FRANKLIN – Steven W. Cutting passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, surrounded by his wife, daughters and son in-laws at the University of Vermont Medical Center. 

Steve was born December 11, 1957, to the late Harold Cutting and Barbara (Knisley) Cutting. He grew up in Enosburg on a family farm along with his 5 siblings. He graduated from Enosburg Falls High School. 

Steve married his wonderful wife Paula (Bushey) on May 24, 1986, and together they raised two beautiful daughters. They, along with their spouses and grandchildren, were Steve’s pride and joy. Steve enjoyed playing foosball with his two daughters as they grew up, even as they learned from the master himself and started to win. Steve was the best “Grampy” to all three grandchildren. From playing games, reading books, giving the best snuggles, and bringing his oldest granddaughter hunting, he always made sure time spent with him was memorable for all of them. 

Steve enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially while hunting, fishing and kayaking. He would plan all summer long for the next hunting season, and his favorite place was anywhere he could put a fishing line in. While the last few years were challenging for Steve, his special friends Tony and Craig were invaluable in making sure he could continue to go hunting at the “Ritz”. Steve enjoyed riding cross country with his brother on his motorcycle, traveling to Hawaii where he went ziplining and took an extreme hike, exploring Ireland, and fishing along the Outer Banks of North Carolina where he caught a small shark. He was also an incredible Uno player, and loved to beat any competitor, whether it be while camping, traveling, or in the hospital. 

Steve spent his working years in the food production industry but retired from Ben and Jerry’s in 2019 after many health setbacks. It was a huge adjustment for him but it allowed him to focus on time with his family. No matter the health challenges Steve faced over the years, of which there were many, he was never one to complain- always carrying a smile on his face, a joke and a laugh to share, and a great hug to give. Steve was such a kind and caring person who would easily have given the shirt off his own back. 

Steve is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Paula, their two daughters Ashley (and husband Matthew) Duhamel and Heather (and husband Donny) Khela; his three grandchildren Ellie, Wyatt and Kinlee Duhamel; his brother John (and wife Francois) Cutting, his sister Peggy (and husband Jim) Record, his brother Michael (and wife Pamela) Cutting; brother-in-law Gary Clough, sister-in-law Susan Cutting, father-in-law Harvey Bushey, brother-in-law Stacy (and wife Kelly) Bushey, and brother-in-law Robin (and Becky) Bushey, nephew Nick Cutting, niece Jenna (and husband Aaron) Chagnon and their children, nephew Logan (and his wife Emily) Cutting and their children, Christopher (and his wife Shauna (Clough), nephew Jeffrey Clough; nieces Jade and Arica Bushey, nephew Lucien Bushey, nephew Jeremy Cutting and his two children Averi and Brady, niece Kristin Tracy, niece Angie Poppy and their children; as well as many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. 

Steve was pre-deceased by both of his parents, Barbara and Harold; his oldest sister Jean and his oldest brother Gary; and his mother-in-law Mary Bushey. 

Steve’s family will receive family and friends on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. 

A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Nativity, 65 Church Street, Swanton. Father Dodson will be the celebrant.
