Steven (Steve) Gary Gulyas, 67, of Ithaca, New York passed away at the Albany Medical Center on September 26, 2022. Steve was born to Joseph T. and Virginia Koellner Gulyas on September 2, 1955, in Ithaca NY. A few years later, the family moved to Mecklenburg, New York.
?When Steve was young, he loved the go fishing in Mecklenburg Pond. Fishing remained to be his passion throughout his life. He learned at a very young age how to work on automobiles working at Joe's Atlantic. He loved taking cars apart and rebuilding them back together. Steve was in high school when he went to Ohio for an Automotive Competition and won! He was a linebacker on the high school football team and was crowned Best Defensive Player of the Year. (He proudly wore his football jersey "51" at a recent high school reunion!)
?Steve graduated from Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg, New York in 1973. He joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota for four years. He returned to the Mecklenburg area and was employed at the City of Ithaca, Head Mechanic, for the "T Cat" transportation system. He also worked for Cornell University.
?At the age of 40, Steve met the love of his life, Gayle Batterson. They were happily married with several family dogs and cats.
?Steve was predeceased by an infant brother, Tenor Jay, his parents, and his wife. He is survived his stepdaughter, Shireen (Chris) by sisters, Linda (Mark) McFall of Oswego, NY; Nancy (Gary) Hoffman of Ithaca NY; and Joy Jones of Newfield NY. He had one nephew, five nieces, and one great nephew.
A military service will be held at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY on October 29th at 10 am.
