Mrs. Sue Kemp of Martinez, Georgia departed her earthly journey in Augusta, Georgia on January 26, 2025, fourteen days following the death of her beloved husband, Pleasant Shade Community native Bill Kemp, who died on January 12, 2025 on his 94th birthday.
Joint memorial graveside services are scheduled for Saturday afternoon July 26th at 1 p.m. at the Sanderson Cemetery in the Pleasant Shade Community conducted by Eld. Rickey Hackett and she will be inurned with her husband in his family plot at the foot of his parent's graves.
She was born Jimmie Sue Walker in Dekalb County on November 26, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Robert Alford Walker who succumbed to typhoid fever at the age of 25 on June 20, 1936 and Chauncie Louise Reynolds Walker Thomas who died at the age of 72 on April 14, 1982.
Also preceding her in death were her step-father, Donald Matthew Thomas who died July 10, 1983 at the age of 74, a sister, Jean Hickey Reed Crowell, step-sister, Donna Faye Smith who died November 3, 2024 at the age of 76 and step-brother, Joe Thomas who died October 22, 2000 at the age of 67.
A popular student and cheerleader at Watertown High School, she graduated there in 1952 and went on to attend Belmont College in Nashville, the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and also Central Piedmont Community College.
She was a licensed real estate agent in the State of North Carolina.
In 1952 she would meet the man that would become her future husband, and on November 26, 1953 she and Bill Kemp were united in Holy Matrimony, a union that would last seventy-one years.
She was formerly employed by the General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Knoxville, until the birth of her son, Mike, when she became a fulltime stay at home mother.
When he started school, she began work as an administrative assistant to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and also served as the financial chairman for all educational office personnel for the State of North Carolina.
From there she became sales office manager for Clematex, an international textile machinery corporation, followed by a role as Area Supervisor for National Retail Services, until her retirement.
Her main goal in life was to support Bill in his philanthropic activities and was an outstanding and attentive mother to their son Mike.
Charlotte, North Carolina was their home for many years, until Bill transferred to the Augusta, Georgia area, where they remained following his retirement.
She was a longtime member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and Christ Church, Presbyterian in Evans.
Mrs. Kemp was involved with many charitable organizations and was a longtime member of the Willow Wood Garden Club,
She loved decorating, Gardening, entertaining, traveling all over the world with Bill and spoiling her grandchildren.
Here favorite pastime was to spend time with her grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica.
She had an easy laugh, loved life, her family and friends.
Surviving is her son, Mike Kemp and wife Wendy of Rock Hill, South Carolina, granddaughter, Jessica Kemp of Charleston, South Carolina and grandson, Jonathan Kemp of Charlotte, North Carolina.
