Susan Therese "Grace" Fiero
Susan Fiero, age 74, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her home in Lansing. Sue was born on September 8, 1951, in Detroit to parents Donald and Lillian Skorski. She met her future husband John in 1965, at the tender age of fourteen, when her family purchased a cottage near Jackson. Sue and John married on May 22, 1970, and shared 55 joyful years together. Sue was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in July 2024. She faced the devastating disease with amazing strength and courage knowing that death was the only result. She cherished every day as a gift and did her absolute best to care for others even when her strength and abilities were fading. She was a humble, caring, loving person and she is sorely missed.
Sue was mother to Michael (Kim) Fiero and Peter (Krista) Fiero and grandmother to Perry, Audrey, Nora, Ian, Grace, Abbey, Ben, and Kasey Fiero. She is survived by her sister, Donna (Jim) Jalosky. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beautiful granddaughter AMAZING Grace.
In addition to family, faith was particularly important to Sue. She was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of Saint Gerard Church for 51 years. She served in many volunteer roles, including the Festival Committee, Worship Commission, Environment Committee, Youth Ministry Team, and Funeral Luncheon Ministry.
+Sewing was her primary avocation. Thousands of projects emerged from her sewing room. Prom dresses, baptism gowns, communion dresses, alterations, costumes, clothing, quilts, bags, trinkets; she was highly skilled and very generous in sharing her talent and her knowledge. For years she sewed altar cloths and altar linens for the church and fitted baptismal robes for adults entering the church. She was a long-time member of the American Sewing Guild and the guild's local chapter, the Lansing Clippers.
The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional and heartfelt care that Sue received from the Pranger ALS Clinic at the University of Michigan, the Susan Mast ALS Foundation in Grand Rapids, and the Elara Caring hospice team in mid-Michigan. Sue was loved, respected, and treated as family by all these agencies, and we are grateful beyond words.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 AM at Saint Gerard Catholic Church with Reverend Father John Klein as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, October 2 and Friday October 3 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6301 West Saint Joseph Highway, Lansing. The Rosary will be prayed Friday at 7:30PM. Visitation continues Saturday at the church, beginning at 10:00 AM. Condolences can be made at www.palmerbush.com.
