Susan M Luhr

Susan M. Luhr, 71, of Vernon Hills, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Born in Oak Park and raised in Palatine, Sue's education began at St. Theresa School and continued at Sacred Heart of Mary/St. Viator High School. She later earned a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University. Her professional life was marked by a dedicated career at Allstate Insurance, where she worked as a programmer; Her hard work and planning allowed her to achieve her goal of retiring early while still in her 50s. Sue embraced retirement with wonderful vitality. She filled her days with her passions: travelling to new places, playing golf, attending yoga classes, and faithfully hitting her 10,000 steps each day. She was also deeply devoted to her faith and was an active, cherished volunteer at St. Joseph Church in Libertyville, where she enjoyed many treasured friendships. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her profound generosity, her constant helpfulness, and her fierce independence.
A special thank you is extended to the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Lutheran General Hospital for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Sue in her final days.
Sue is survived by her brothers Robert J. (Anne) Luhr, Thomas M. Luhr, and William J. Luhr; her sister-in-law Karen Prestegaard; her nieces Whitney E., Sigrid W. and Kristina Luhr; and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary; her brothers Matthew J. Luhr and James F.; and her nephew Alex R..
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Monday November 17, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville, where there will be a visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow Mass at St. Mary Cemetery in Fremont Center. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Leukemia Research Foundation https://leukemiarf.org would be greatly appreciated.
