Longtime La Jara resident Sylvia Maria Chacon-Baroz, 79, passed away on February 5, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 1, 1943, in Romeo, Colorado to Encarnacion and Crotilde (DeHerrera) Chacon. Sylvia married Joe Baroz on November 16, 1963, in Capulin, Colorado. Her favorite pass time was watching General Hospital. She also enjoyed doing yardwork, was a great cook and loved to sing and dance. She was a devout Catholic and instilled the Catholic faith into her children and grandchildren. Most of all, she loved and cherished her family.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Joe Baroz, her children, Connie Medina, Pamela (Alfred) Fresquez, Joseph (Kim) Baroz, Grace (Ever) Ojeda, Alifonso (Kendra) Baroz and Damian (Tineel) Baroz, her eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brother Eddie (Cecilia) Chacon, sister-in-law Patsy Chacon and her aunt Rose Manchego as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sandy (Robert) Alfaro, her great-grandson Nathaniel Holman, her siblings Orlando (Tina) Chacon, Elipio (Cirila) Chacon, Adelmo Chacon, Eufelia (Salomon) Garcia, Mary (Berlie) Martinez and Benita (Humberto) Garcia.
The Rosary will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara, CO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. also at the church. Interment will follow services at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa.
