Sylvia K. Darling

Sylvia (Springer) Darling, age 86, died on Monday, February 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of the greater Chesaning area, Sylvia was born to Clinton and Pauline Springer on March 16, 1936 in Owosso. She married Rolan Darling on October 10, 1954.
Sylvia was many things to many people, as evidenced by her many names - Ma, Ovie, Grammy, Nana, and Nana Grape. She was the heart and soul behind Pioneer Farms for more than sixty years. She was just as likely to be found driving tractors and delivering piglets as she was managing the books and supplying sandwiches. A creator at heart, she was an artist whether she had a paintbrush, sewing needle, spatula, or garden trowel in her hand. Sylvia was known among her friends as both a genuine listener and a comedian.
She enjoyed venturing to many places, including the Caribbean and Alaska. She was most comfortable at home, devouring books, watching birds, and working in her garden alongside her faithful chocolate lab Ally.
Sylvia and Ron were faithful members of the Chesaning Showboat chorus and enjoyed their summers with Showboat related activities.
Sylvia is survived by her children Deb (Doug) Alden, Dianne (Dave) Kuchar, Chip (Jeri) Darling, and Jim (Tracie) Darling; grandchildren Matt Alden, Tim Alden, Brad (Colleen) Darling, Hillary (Curtis) Grigonis, Cody Darling, Chelsea (Jeremy) Hurst, Taylor Darling, Riley Darling, Spencer Darling, Madi Darling; great grandchildren Eli, Kaia, and Max Grigonis; siblings Bill (Fran) Springer, Jeanie Gute, Judy (Ken) Andres, Frank (Mable) Springer, Ed (Janet) Springer, Marge (Walter) Long, and many nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Rolan Darling, brother George Springer, and her parents Clinton and Pauline Springer.
A funeral will be held at McGeehan Funeral Homes, 316 W. Broad St., Chesaning on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11AM. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Albee Township. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM, as well as 10 AM on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
