Tasia Eliopoulos

Tasia Eliopoulos, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed at the age of 87. Born in Sparta, Greece in 1936, she grew up wishing to be a schoolteacher but with few opportunities. Like many in her generation, she emigrated to the United States in her 20's to seek a better life. Living with cousins in Brooklyn, she was introduced to James Eliopoulos, who she had known from their village in Greece. They married in 1966, and she raised (and doted on) her three children in Port Chester and then Rye Brook. She was a dedicated parishioner of the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye, and a member of the choir and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was predeceased by James, her husband of 43 years. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She experienced no greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren, and loved hosting and cooking for her family - especially on holidays - but any time would do. Her Greek baked goods, in particular her baklava, were unrivaled. She is survived by her daughter Ellen Papanicolaou (spouse Christos) and sons James (spouse Rose) Eliopoulos Jr. and Elias (spouse Roubi) Eliopoulos, and by her grandchildren Alexea and George (Ellen), Benjamin (James), and Anastasia and Elias James (Elias).
