Theresa "Terry" Stanley Simaner
Age 85, of Bloomfield Hills, MI
Passed away April 10, 2025 at Clemson Downs in Clemson, SC
Terry was a devoted grandmother, mother, wife, and friend. She cherished every moment spent cheering on her grandchildren at their soccer, football, and baseball games as well as their swim meets. Terry also delighted in hosting family birthday celebrations that included the family favorite chocolate pudding cake with ice cream.
Professionally, Terry enjoyed an accomplished career at H&R Block, working for over 30 years and finally retiring at age 82. Tackling challenging tax returns was her passion, and she took great pride in guiding new preparers through the tax preparation courses she taught.
An avid golfer with a great short game, Terry supported the junior golf program at Pine Lake Country Club and stayed involved with golf even after retiring her golf clubs. She served as secretary of the Women's District Golf Association in southeastern Michigan for over 20 years. Her love of golf brought her lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories.
Terry experienced both love and loss in her life. She was married to John Stanley for 18 years until his death in 1980. Her deep personal strength allowed her to continue single-handedly raise their four children, helping each of them buy their first car and home. Later, she found happiness again when she married Jim Simaner in 1990. Their marriage was a happy one lasting 30 years until Jim's passing in 2021.
In her later years, Terry relocated to Clemson, SC to live in a senior living community. Despite experiencing multiple health challenges, Terry remained resilient, positive and deeply grateful for the care she received from the Clemson Downs and Via Hospice staff.
Terry is survived by her children Sue Whorton (Bob), Clemson, SC, Mike Stanley (Liz), Bloomfield Township, Chris Stanley (Adrienne) Bloomfield Hills, and Kevin (Cindy), Royal Oak, her grandchildren Claire, Tim, Jack, Drew, Kate and Abby, her sisters Rita Carr and Marie Killoran and her sister-in-law Judy Stanley.
Terry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered
Funeral Mass Wednesday April the 16th, 9:30 In state until time of Mass 10:00 am, at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church, Bloomfield Hills. Interment at The Preserve at All Saints Cemetery, Waterford Township.
