Thomas Combs, 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus in Easton, Pennsylvania. Born on July 28, 1946, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to the late Francis and Irma (Balazs) Combs. Raised in North Brunswick, he spent a significant part of his life there before relocating to Easton, Pennsylvania fifteen years ago.
Thomas was a dedicated scholar and educator. After graduating from St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick, he pursued higher education at Seton Hall University, earning his Bachelor's degree in Physics, followed by a Master's degree from the University of Georgia. His passion for physics extended beyond academia, as he was an active member of The American Association of Physics Teachers and The New York Academy of Sciences. He began his career teaching high school students and later worked for Castle as a pharmaceutical sterilizer technician. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own pharmaceutical sterilizing company in North Brunswick, where he served his community for over thirty years.
An accomplished poet, Thomas also enjoyed music and playing the guitar. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved wife, Maddalena (Venturi) Combs, with whom he shared forty-seven years of marriage.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife Maddalena; nieces, Donna Naphor and Chrystal Combs; cousins, Audrey Johnson and Joan Johnson; brother-in-law, Sal Venturi; and sisters-in-laws, Antonina Venturi, Maria Rosalba (Venturi) Maltese, and Giovanna (Venturi) Katransky, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Combs; his sister, Diane Haney; and his brother-in-law, Arturo Venturi.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Gleason Funeral Home of North Brunswick, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ 08902. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church in New Brunswick, with entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cooley's Anemia Foundation at www.thalassemia.org/donate.
