Thomas "Tom" Edward Gentry, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at PruittHealth -Town Center in Harrisburg, NC.
Tom was born August 26, 1948 in Herrin, Illinois, to the late Kenneth Lewis Gentry and the late Sylvia Taylor Gentry. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Lora Gentry, and Noah and Louella Taylor; sister, Sherry Toney; niece, Dana Toney; uncle, Richard Gentry; sister-in-law, Carol Siskron; and nephew, Jeremy Stone.
Tom was a graduate of Carterville High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966. After serving his country in the Vietnam War, Tom was honorably discharged with rank of Lance Corporal in 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Air Medal, Combat Air Crew Insignia with 3 Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Cross of Gallentry and Good Conduct Medal.
He then furthered his education by taking college classes before beginning his career. Tom was employed by Orkin Pest Control as a Branch Manager at various locations, before retiring. He then went to work at Clegg's Termite and Pest Control in Charlotte for a period of years as Branch Manager in Sales. After retiring from Clegg's, he became co-owner of Brock Exterminating Company in Charlotte, until retirement. His retirement was cut short when God called him home.
Tom is survived by his wife and caregiver, Patsy; daughter, Tara Nogueras; sister, Lora Gentry (Dan) Hines; cousin, James Roaden; sister-in-laws, Diane (Bob) McClellan and Betsy (Steve) Spaeth; nieces and nephews, Lesley Jenkins, Kayla Hines (Chris) Vierling, Jared Hines, Shawn (Barbara) Siskron, Robin McClellan, Tina McClellan (Luke) Hordyk, Austin Spaeth, and Brandon Spaeth; great nieces and nephews, Nicholas Campbell, Tyler (Jessica) Jenkins, Justin Sherman, Gentry and Eleanor Vierling, Zoey Wheeler, Kaylen Siskron, and Mason Hordyk; great-great nieces and nephews, Wilder, Makenzie, and Annaleigh.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm, Friday, December 13, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The memorial service with miltiary honors in celebration of Tom's life will follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Carter. The service will be webcast.
