Thomas Vernon Hennessy, age 81, of Boyne City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on July 29, 1944, in Flint, Michigan to Leona and William Hennessy. Tom lived a full life marked by love, laughter, and wit. Whether you were on the good or bad side of that wit, was dependent on you.
On June 19, 1965, he married the love of his life, Mary Kay Faller, and together they shared 60 beautiful years of marriage. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Hennessy; his son, Timothy (Amie) Hennessy; son-in-law Harold "Buck" Stevens; eight grandchildren, Tommy, Allie, Jane, Hillary, Autumn, Andrew, Georgia, and Claire; ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Lisa Stevens and Michelle Barber; grandson, SSG Kelly Richards; parents, Leona and William Hennessy; brothers, Frank Hennessy, William Hennesy Jr., and Leonard Hennessy.
Tom Retired from Great Lakes Energy at 59 1/2 years old after 30 years of hard work and dedication. He then enjoyed morning coffee at Mel's with his friends, reading the newspaper religiously, Miller Lites at the Boyne City Eagles and under the apple tree at their backyard bar, keeping the house stocked with baked goods, winters in Florida, and tuning into The Weather Channel. He had a heart for adventure, especially road trips across the country with his wife Mary Kay, where he found joy in the journey as much as the destination.
Always willing to lend a hand, he was the kind of man who never hesitated to help others, whether family, friends, or strangers along the way. Tom was a wonderful husband and provider for his family. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and frequent stubbornness.
Mary Kay would like to send a heartfelt "thank you" to the enormous support from family, friends, and the community during this difficult time. The outreach has been overwhelming and appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held at the Boyne City Eagles on Sunday August 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
