Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial - Smith Chapel - Port Huron on Sep. 13, 2024.
Thomas "Tom" E. Hyde, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at home, at the age of 76. Born on August 18, 1947, in
Port Huron, Michigan, Tom was a lifelong resident of the city he loved.
Tom graduated from Port Huron Northern High School. With a passion for practical skills, he furthered his education at a vocational school, where he trained to become an electrician. His dedication to his craft was only matched by his commitment to his country. Tom served with distinction in the United States Army, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal and rose to the rank of Sergeant, a testament to his bravery and leadership.
Thomas married Katherine Ann Shagena on June 14, 1971, in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2021.
After his military service, Tom embarked on a career with Mueller Brass, where he worked for over 30 years. His colleagues knew he was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood or a piece of wisdom to share. Tom's work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
Family was the cornerstone of Tom's life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Kathy Hyde, jokester son to Hubert and Marion Hyde, and a loving brother to Jim, Orrin L., and John Hyde, all of whom preceded him in death.
His legacy continues through his children, Kim Kelley and her husband Pete, and Tom Hyde II, as well as his sisters, Wanda Helmrich and Ruth Kennedy. Tom's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren-Isabell, Benjamin, Lilly, Tessa, Ty, Henry, and Leland-who will carry forward the memories of their cherished grandfather.
Tom's interests were simple yet profound. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solitude in the gentle lapping of the lake. His love for food was well-known, a passion he enjoyed indulging in with his family and friends. Above all, Tom's greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren, imparting life lessons and sharing in their laughter.
Those who knew Tom would describe him as loving, funny, and wise. His loving nature was evident in the way he cared for his family, always putting their needs above his own. And his wisdom, accrued through years of experience and reflection, was generously shared with anyone in need of guidance.
Tom's life was a tapestry of service, work, and family-each thread woven with care and devotion. As we remember Tom, we celebrate the enduring impact of his presence in our lives. His laughter, his stories, and his unwavering love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Thomas E. Hyde, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the memories we created. His spirit remains a guiding light, reminding us to cherish each moment, to love deeply, and to face life with a smile. Tom's journey on earth has concluded, but his influence endures, a legacy of a life beautifully lived.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Allied Veteran Cemetery, Port Huron.
Arrangements were entrusted to Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel 1525 Hancock Street,
