Norfolk - Thomas Gregory Yanez, born on April 17, 1971, passed away in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 54 on June 13, 2025. Born and raised in Hicksville, N.Y. Thomas is lovingly remembered by his sister, Victoria; his brother, Vincent and wife Melissa; niece, Amanda and nephew, Andrew; his cousins Lisa and Louis and their children Sarah and Luke; and his cousins Diane and Lauren and husband Mo.
In his early years, Thomas worked in the construction field as a roofer and later on enjoyed flipping homes.
He was extremely creative and found joy and peace as a talented musician, drummer and songwriter. Thomas also was a gifted artist and had a lifelong passion for drawing. Thomas' mind was always working and forward moving as he was often found creating simple inventions to make life easier.
He was a critical thinker and with his strategic mind he enjoyed anything related to science and technology as well as playing chess. He was naturally talented in all that he did.
By trade, Thomas was a Water Treatment Specialist. He took pride in his work and held many certificates in his field. Most recently Thomas with his curious spirit enjoyed Ghost hunting and often embarked on adventures with likeminded groups.
Thomas shared a bond with his beloved dog, Bindi and his 20 year old cat, Mr. Cat.
Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Alfredo and Rose (Lacognata) Yanez.
He will be remembered for his kindness, creativity and his soft spoken demeanor. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched. At this time there are no services planned.
