Tony Tuthill, born to Bill Tuthill and Ann Slayton on June 10, 1975, died suddenly on February 9, 2024.
The intent of this obituary is to offer another perspective of Tony, that his life had been so much more, filled with love, family and friends, and was not simply defined by addiction, despite it taking a terrible toll on him and all the ones who loved and cared for him.
Tony attended grade school in Hyde Park, VT and graduated from Lamoille Union High School 1993. In Tony's younger days he showed considerable promise as a carpenter with his agile mind. Tony worked construction with his dad, for several years and K.A Harvey's.
Tony was always smiling, had a wicked sense of humor; he was funny and smart and a constant teaser. Tony would always beat Jason at Atari and jigsaw puzzle assembly and wasn't afraid to claim bragging rights. With his son Taryn he was often found shooting hoops, playing chess or card games, listening to music, tickling him and telling silly jokes. Tucker, Tony's youngest, would cozy up with his dad while Tony read to him. One of Tony's favorite things to do was to listen to country music and bluegrass.
Tony had a great circle of friends who were considered his "partners in crime": Dan "Candyman" Bourdeau, Stevie Jones, Chad Graves "Vinnie", Dana Bourdeau, Amy Magnan, Sara Griggs, Nathan Masi, Mike (Little Putty) Putvain, and, last but not least, David and Dennis Reen and the "Hyde Park Boys".
Tony leaves behind so many, including his long-term partner Kristen Wilcox; sons Dylan Tuthill, Taryn and Tucker Tuthill; his devoted mother, Ann Slayton; his father Bill Tuthill and wife Carma Stark; his brother Jason and wife Gloria, daughter Tammy, his step-sister Aubrey Stark-Miller and his grandmother Ruth Tuthill. He was predeceased by his grandparents Wendall and Shirley Slayton and Bud Tuthill. Tony had special relationships with his grandmother Shirley Slayton, his only niece Tammy, cousin Kylee Bezio, Uncle Mike and Aunt Sue Bourdeau, as well as an expansively wide arc of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
It's so remarkable how his life touched so many, and we are left with such a sense of loss and regret.
Though we don't currently know what caused his death, it is reasonable to believe that his long-term substance abuse disorder, which eventually robbed him of his ability to choose a different path, was the ultimate cause.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, February 18, 2024, 2:00 PM at Jenna's Promise, 117 St Johns Rd, Johnson, VT 05656, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to a charity that aids in recovery, such as Jenna's Promise or The Turning Point. Addiction creates physical and mental illness and we need to do all that we can to reduce, ideally eliminate, the occurrence and devastation of addiction in our lives for the sake and well-being of all.

I will always remember him and his "tab at the Tavern", lol. His generosity and sense of humor will always be fondly remembered. He always had a way to make people smile, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was much more than the addiction. He was a great soul. Such a great loss to all who really knew Tony.
