Townsend was a graduate of Corning Free Academy, class of 1952, and later attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Townsend proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his service, he worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories until his retirement. In his free time, Townsend enjoyed the outdoors - specifically hiking and camping.
Townsend is survived by his sister, Irene L. Frey of Richmond, VA; nieces: Marcelle L. Downs of TX, Vicki O. Rosentraub of TX; nephew, James Allen Froman of Virginia Beach, VA; and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Townsend was predeceased by a sister, Jocelyn Lalonde Ober.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Hope Cemetery Annex, Upper Delevan Ave., Corning, Rev. Troy Preston officiating. Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
