Troy "Lee" Bone, Jr., age 71, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
Lee was born to Troy Lee Bone, Sr. and Doris Proctor Bone on May 21, 1953 in Rocky Mount, NC. He
was also predeceased by his sister, Doris Kathryn "Kitty" Bone.
Lee is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Wyatt Bone; his daughter, Leslie Bone Peedin (Philip) of
Farmville, NC; his son, Wyatt Lee Bone of Raleigh; his granddaughter, Samantha Grace Peedin;
cousins, Georgia Bone Vick and Gloria Bone Gunther.
After graduating from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1971, he attended ECU where he met his wife,
Carol Wyatt Bone. Upon graduating from ECU in 1975, he returned to Roanoke Rapids to join his father
in the family owned car business. The Bone family car business began in Roanoke Rapids in 1961 as
Quality Pontiac, eventually becoming Quality Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Inc. and then adding Bone's
Toyota in 1971. Lee actually began working in the family business at age 16 prior to making this his
career until the business was sold on December 30, 2018. He loved serving the community in the car
business and built long time relationships with his customers who ultimately became his friends.
Lee was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed waterskiing, boating, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed
working with young scouts in their formative years and was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 245 as well as
serving in other leadership roles in the Boy Scout East Carolina Council. He was also the recipient of the
Silver Beaver Distinguished Service Award by the East Carolina Council. This award is given to those who
implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, dedication and
many years of service.
Other areas of service included being on the PNC Bank Board and he was proud to have served on the
Halifax County Board of Adjustment where he was the chairman for the majority of his tenure.
Lee's greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his wife and his children. He was always
supportive of his children and their hobbies which included horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. He
also enjoyed remodeling his and Carol's retirement home at the coast and he considered it a home of
great happiness and comfort.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Askew Funeral
and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating, followed by the interment
at Cedarwood Cemetery. The family visitation will be on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 3:30 to 5:00 PM
at the funeral home.
