Ty Mason Garnto, 61, of
Jacksonville, FL, passed away on January 20, 2025, with his wife at his side. A devoted
husband, stepfather, brother, and friend, Ty lived a life full of passion, curiosity, and humor, leaving an indelible mark
on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on May 5, 1963, in
Jacksonville, FL, Ty's thirst for knowledge led him to earn a Bachelor of Science from the
University of Georgia, a Master's of Education from Oklahoma State University, and complete ABD studies in
Organizational Psychology at Capella University. His love for learning was not just personal-it was a gift he shared
with others. He dedicated much of his career to education, serving as a college professor of Psychology and working
in various roles that helped students succeed in higher education.
Ty also served his country with honor, spending time in the U.S. Army and Full-Time Army National Guard, where he
earned the rank of Captain. His dedication to service, whether in uniform or in the classroom, was a testament to his
generous spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ty was a man of many passions. He was an avid reader, a seeker of
knowledge, and a lover of books. He found joy in writing, urban hiking, bike riding, gardening, playing the guitar, and
soul-searching. He had a deep love for animals-especially his many beloved cats-and found peace at the beach.
While he enjoyed traveling, life's challenges sometimes limited the adventures he longed to take. But he made up for
it in the richness of his experiences and the stories he collected along the way.
Ty had a rare gift for storytelling, often infused with his sharp wit and quick humor. He had an uncanny ability to truly
listen to people, to understand their stories, and to make those around him feel heard and valued. He lived with
compassion, curiosity, and just the right amount of spice (IFYKYK - LOL).
He leaves behind his loving wife, Angela Garnto, who was his soulmate and the love of his life. He is also survived
by his children: Lisa Breden (husband Terry Breden, grandchildren Izzy and Levi Breden), Daniel Pope, and
Madeline Strickland; his siblings: Terri Howard (husband Trent Howard), Gary Craig Garnto (wife Dora Garnto),
and Sean Garnto (wife Johanna Garnto); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom he
loved dearly.
Ty is preceded in death by his mother, Victoria Shepard Caneega, and his father, Gary Lee Garnto. His stepfather,
Andy Caneega, survives him.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. Ty, though outgoing and full of life, was a private person,
particularly in his later years. Instead of gathering in mourning, he would want those who loved him to celebrate their
lives, cherish each other, and never take a single moment for granted.
In honor of Ty's deep love for animals, donations may be made in his memory to any local animal shelter or wildlife
rescue-organizations that played a significant role in the many animals he and Angela rescued over the years.
Ty was, in every sense, a force-funny, intelligent, compassionate, and deeply loved. His absence leaves a void that
can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the love he shared.
"You are the love of my life, my everything, and I will love and miss you for eternity-until we meet again." - Your
Wife, Angela
