Ugo Ciannavei

Ugo Ciannavei of Franklin passed away on October 6th as the result of injuries suffered after being struck by a car. He was 89.
He was born August 28, 1936 in Ascoli Piceno, Italy to the late Nicola and Giovanna (Collina) Ciannavei.
Ugo was educated in Italy and served in the Italian Army. After his service, he returned to work on his family's farm in Ascoli.
After emigrating to Walpole in 1973, he married Phyllis DeBaggis of Franklin in 1974. Married for 51 years, Ugo is survived by Phyllis, his son Steven and his wife Rosaleen of Philadelphia, PA as well as his daughter Andrea Ciannavei of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his brother Nazareno, and sisters Luciana and Anna, all of Ascoli Piceno. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Nerina and Rita. Also survived by many nieces and nephews both in America and Italy.
Most importantly he is survived by five grand furbabies: Cookie, Meaux, Bea, Gus and his favorite Bear. He claimed not to like dogs and referred to them as "the invasion" but would feed them human food when he thought no one was looking.
Mr. Ciannavei worked for the Kendall Company in Walpole and when they closed he worked for Ingersoll Rand in Walpole. Following that he did landscaping local Walpole residents for 28 years.
One of his favorite things was his vegetable garden which he had for many years. It boasted over 200 tomato plants. He was also a big fan of old country westerns. His favorite show was Gunsmoke.
Visitation will be held at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. on Tuesday, October 14th from 9am to 10:30am followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Walpole, MA.
